Our Ensemble

The 70+ voice Southern Oregon Repertory Singers ensemble celebrates its 40th season of bringing choral excellence to the Rogue Valley. Under the direction of Dr. Paul French, Professor Emeritus of Choral Studies at Southern Oregon University, the semi-professional ensemble captivates audiences by presenting the best of classical choral literature from around the world throughout the ages, as well as newly composed works by world-renowned composers, such as Gabriel Jackson, Eric Whitacre, and Ēriks Ešenvalds. Southern Oregon Repertory Singers have also had the honor to premiere new works by Composer-in-Residence Jodi French and Craig Kingsbury.

We offer opportunities to local and regional musicians, including professionals and music educators, as well as access to a wide variety of repertoire, while providing cultural enrichment to the Rogue Valley through presentations of a series of unique concerts.

Southern Oregon Repertory Singers proudly presents at least one choral masterwork every year in their season. Recent masterworks include Fauré’s Requiem, Bach’s St. Matthew Passion and Mass in B Minor, Haydn’s Creation, and Handel’s Messiah, performed with the Rogue Valley Symphony.

Katie Boehnlein

Katie Boehnlein

Katie has been studying music since the age of five and has sung in many renowned choral groups on the West Coast including the Oregon Repertory Singers in Portland, San Francisco Bach Choir, and Seattle University Choirs. She also loves folk music and is an avid volunteer with the Ashland Folk Collective concerts. Katie is currently a teacher at Logos Public Charter School in Medford where she teaches science and coordinates outdoor education programs.

Alexandra Carwithen

Alexandra Carwithen

Alexandra Carwithen discovered her desire to teach music at the age of seven and began formal vocal training at age 12. She enjoys performing in productions all around the valley and has recently been seen as Miss Honey in Camelot Theatre’s Matilda, and Zelda 1924 in SOU Lyric Theatre’s The Ghosts of Gatsby. Alexandra graduated from Southern Oregon University in June of 2024 with a Bachelor’s in Music Education and a certificate in Vocal Performance. She recently had the honor of studying opera in Austria at the AustrianAmerican Mozart Academy, and performed the role of Zweite Dame in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte. Alexandra most recently taught voice, piano, and flute to students of all ages at Rogue Music Academy in Medford and currently teaches band at Joseph Lane Middle School in Roseburg.

Sharon Dady

Sharon Dady

Sharon grew up singing in choirs and playing piano.  She met her husband, Ralph (who also sings in Repertory Singers) while singing in Biola University Chorale.  She has taught private piano lessons for over 45 years and also taught music in the classroom.  She graduated with a degree in Music Education from SOU.  She is currently the music director at Sacred Heart School and plays for the Rogue Valley Youth Ensemble.  Aside from music, she is a Real Estate Broker, and most importantly a Mom of 3 (her son Aaron also sings in Repertory Singers) and Grandma of 7. 

Natalie DiNenno

Natalie DiNenno

Natalie joined SORS in 2022 when she was a graduate student at SOU. Originally from Pennsylvania, Natalie has performed in many choirs, a cappella groups, and musical theater productions, and was happy to find her musical home in Oregon with the Rep Singers. When she’s not singing, Natalie can be found leading outdoor education programs, volunteering at the animal shelter, birdwatching, or spending time at home with her partner. She is grateful to be a member of this group filled with so many talented musicians!

Muriel Garcia-Hart

Muriel Garcia-Hart

Muriel GarciaHart teaches early childhood music through Kindermusik at Rogue Music Academy, along with voice and beginner piano. She sings primarily with the Southern Oregon Repertory Singers, where she also serves on the board as chair of the Community Connections Committee, and she is the mezzosoprano cantor at Trinity Episcopal Church. With extensive experience in opera, oratorio, concert, and sacred music, Muriel has also performed with ensembles such as the Rogue Valley Symphony. She holds a Master of Music in Vocal Performance from the Oregon Center for the Arts at Southern Oregon University and a BA in Music and International Studies from Southern Oregon University.

Amanda Gerig

Amanda Gerig

Amanda Gerig has a BA in Vocal Performance from Oregon State University. She loves living in Southern Oregon for its many opportunities to enjoy the outdoors as well as the thriving arts community. She lives with her husband and three beautiful children on a 3acre hobby farm which provides bountiful inspiration and plenty of good work. Amanda has been singing with the Southern Oregon repertory Singers since 2009, and has also performed various operatic and theater roles with Camelot Theater, Brava! Opera, and Rogue Opera. She has experience teaching private voice and piano lessons, choir and general music to grades 48 at Madrone Trail Public Waldorf School, and is currently teaching music to preschoolgrade 5 at Medford Montessori School.

Emily Jeffs

Emily Jeffs

Emily’s musical journey began with piano lessons at age 7, blossoming into a love for singing in high school choir. She joined Repertory Singers in the spring of 2012 while pursuing her Music Education degree at SOU, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts in 2013 and a Master of Arts in Teaching in 2015. She feels so fortunate to be able to share and make music every day as an Elementary Music and Choir Teacher in the Ashland School District where she has been teaching for over a decade. Emily loves living in Southern Oregon with her husband and two young boys and every week she looks forward to Sunday evenings and the joy of rehearsing with Rep Singers.

Lindsay Kuzmitz

Lindsay holds degrees in Vocal Performance and Music Education from Southern Oregon University, where she was named the 2011 Outstanding Woman Graduate in Music Performance. She studied classical voice under the direction of Dr. Fredna Grimland, Laurie Anne Hunter, and Dr. Paul French, and has participated in masterclasses with lyric diction specialist Marcie Stapp, lyric soprano Barbara Bonney, and early music soprano Julianne Baird. She has performed as an ensemble member and soloist with SOU’s Concert and Chamber Choirs, Brava! Opera, Rogue Opera, the Rogue Valley Symphony, and Jefferson Baroque Orchestra. Lindsay lives in Ashland with her husband and young family.
Jennifer Matsuura

Jennifer Matsuura

Jennifer has completed degrees in Psychology, Music, Music Therapy, and a Master’s in Mental Health Counseling from SOU and ASU. She is a soloist with the Southern Oregon Repertory Singers, the Rogue Valley Chorale, and has performed on numerous occasions with the Rogue Valley Symphony, including their staged performance of Arvo Pärt’s Passio. She has appeared in five operas here in the Rogue Valley. She also loves singing early music, and performing with the Jefferson Baroque Orchestra. Ms. Matsuura was a featured vocalist in Britt Festival Orchestra’s world premiere installation of Brush, a commissioned work by Pulitzer Prize winning composer, Caroline Shaw. She has performed and recorded many new works by composers of the Southern Oregon chapter of NACUSA, one of which was recognized by the American Prize for Vocal Chamber Music in 2024. She is the soprano cantor at Trinity Episcopal Church in Ashland, where she can often be heard singing new works by Jodi French.

Breahna Molina

Breahna Molina

Bre is a California native who moved to the Rogue Valley in 2015 and graduated from Southern Oregon University in the spring of 2023 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music. They have a long history with choral performance, participating in the California All State, Regional, and County Honor Choirs during their time at Del Norte High School. They have worked closely with Paul French for several years as part of SOU’s Chamber Choir Ensemble, have spent time as the music director for SOU’s A Capella group Dulcet, and have also performed in multiple master classes hosted by SOU as part of their degree. They have a strong love for the arts, and write poetry that has been featured in collaborative choral works written by Jodi French. When Bre is not singing and making art, they can be found working as a dental assistant, playing video games, and spending time with their two precious cats.

Taylor Pulsipher is a Rogue Valley native. She has directed choirs, provided private vocal coaching in a variety of states and countries, and has worked with internationally known artists: Kristen Chenowith, Voces 8, Frederica von Stade, David Archuleta, and others. Taylor earned her Music Education degree from Brigham Young UniversityIdaho. She is currently earning a Master’s Degree and teaches choir at Grants Pass High School. Taylor is grateful for the opportunity to sing with Southern Oregon Repertory Singers.

Cynthia Scherr

Cynthia Scherr

Cynthia first joined a choir when she was 10 years old and has been singing ever since. In high school, she was type cast as Sarah in Guys and Dolls. She studied voice at the Oberlin College Conservatory and toured with the Oberlin College Choir. During a fellowship year in India, she conducted a chapel choir and studied Carnatic music (South Indian classical music). Since then, she has sung in choirs in Boston, Los Angeles, San Francisco and the Rogue Valley. Cynthia describes singing as not only an artistic pursuit but also a source of personal renewal and a space where lessons in leadership—such as the importance of both leading andfollowing—play out in real time. When not singing, Cynthia is a management consultant and executive coach with organizations from Seattle to San Francisco.

Leanne Strom

Leanne Strom

Leanne Strom has enjoyed choral singing and other musical endeavors for decades. She was the soprano soloist in Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony in college, sang in many church choirs, and now is privileged to be singing first soprano with the Repertory Singers. A veteran of musical theatre, Leanne homeschooled her children, teaching them to sing in four-part harmony at an early age. She is retired from a career as an administrator and software engineer, and is enjoying spending more time with her family and grandchildren.

Christine Williams

Christine Williams

Christine Williams is a multidisciplinary performing artist rooted in classical forms with a contemporary sensibility. A singer, actor, director, and writer, her work spans the spectrum from opera, musicals, jazz, and experimental electronics, to Shakespeare, new plays, and physical theatre. Chris teaches voice at Southern Oregon University and the Oregon Shakespeare Festival works as a music and stage director for local theatres and has an active private studio. Credits as a performer include many seasons at OSF and regional theatres and concert halls across the country. Chris is a proud union member and an awardwinning narrator of over 150 audiobooks.

Elizabeth Soper

Elizabeth directs the choir program at South Medford High School. She graduated summa cum laude from the University of Oregon with degrees in Music Education, Music Performance (Flute), and a minor in Nonprofit Management. One of her main passions is to cultivate musical opportunities for students in her community and throughout the state within both public schools and local nonprofits. Elizabeth has served as the collegiate volunteer coordinator or transportation manager for the 2020, 2022, & 2023 OMEA State Conferences.  This is Elizabeth’s first year with Rep Singers, and she is grateful to have the opportunity to sing with such accomplished singers.  When not singing, you’ll most likely find Elizabeth hiking in search of waterfalls, getting lost in a great book, or exploring new corners of the world 0 with her most recent trips to New Orleans, Spain, and The Azures.

Kelly Jean Hammond

When not singing with The Southern Oregon Repertory Singers, Kelly Jean performs onstage frequently throughout the Rogue Valley, including at Camelot Theatre and The Oregon Cabaret Theatre. Her work spans musical theatre and classical repertoire, including Aldonza (Man of La Mancha), Guinevere (Camelot), Lucy (Jekyll and Hyde), Marguerite (The Scarlet Pimpernel), Cathy (The Last 5 Years), Blanche (Dialogues of the Carmélites), and the title role in Suor Angelica. She has performed internationally with the Siena Summer Music Festival and Operafest di Roma, and has studied with ACT (San Francisco) and the Rome Opera Academy. Outside of performing, Kelly is an owner of Paddington Station. She is grateful to be making music in the Rogue Valley and thanks her family, husband, and darling daughters for their unyielding support.  

Gabriella Gauthier

Gabi Gauthier is a soprano who recently graduated from the University of Oregon. She minored in music, sang in University Singers for three years, and has been studying solo vocals for the past four years at Rogue Music Academy. Occasionally she also performs at open mic sessions with her guitar.

Allie Hymas

Allie Hymas sang before she could talk. After singing with Whitworth University’s choir for four years, she graduated with a degree in Theology and lead church music. Allie is a journalist and writer covering agriculture and local government. Her work has been featured by Oregon Public Broadcasting, Modern Farmer, Columbia Gorge News and KTVL News10 among other publications. Currently, she is pursuing a low-residency masters in creative writing at the University of Cambridge. She enjoys reading, wandering estate sales and walking around Ashland with her husband, three kids and little dog.

Ruby Johnson

Ruby began singing in choir in 1st grade and never looked back—earning spots in multiple all-state choruses throughout high school and acting as the soprano section leader of her college chamber choir. Ruby also began pursuing solo singing in high school, earning 4th place in the state of Oregon in the Mezzo Soprano category of the Oregon State Solo Competition in 2015. In college, she studied classical voice for 4 years under the direction of Jurate Waller, culminating in a senior vocal recital in December 2020. (This was held in a private studio and livestreamed, due to the pandemic.) Ruby Johnson graduated with a degree in Human Development from Connecticut College, summa cum laude, in 2021. Following her belief in the importance of positive early-childhood experiences, combined with her life-long love of music, Ruby has spent her professional career sharing music with young children. After some time working as an environmental educator at Disney World’s Animal Kingdom, Ruby worked as a preschool teacher and early-childhood music educator in Connecticut. She is now the lead program coordinator and music program educator for the Children’s Museum of Southern Oregon in Medford. In her free time, Ruby loves playing piano and guitar, expressing herself through figure skating and ballet, and practicing her French. (Someday, she dreams of working/performing in Disneyland Paris!)

Mikaeli Nootenboom

Mikaeli Nootenboom is a soprano who began in jazz and pop before finding a home in classical music. She performed with the Pacific Youth Choir, appearing alongside Pink Martini and the Oregon Symphony. She studied at Southern Oregon University under Paul French, where she sang with several university ensembles, participated in masterclasses, and performed as Lily in the theatre department’s production of The Secret Garden. Now back in Southern Oregon with her husband and daughter, music remains a constant love and a meaningful part of her life. She is grateful to share that passion with the Repertory Singers and their audience.

Katie Schwarz

Katie is a BYU music education graduate recently returning to her Oregon home for the beautiful music, majestic hikes, and family. 

Madeline Abel-Kerns

Beyond classical music concerts with Dr. Alexander Tutunov, Dr. Rhett Bender, Christine Eggert,  Angel McDonald and Jodi French, Madeline’s performance history includes appearances in Opera with Frankfurt Alte Oper, Heidelberg Opera, Long Island Opera, NJ Opera Theatre, Sacramento Opera, San Francisco Opera and the Wagner Concert Orchestra of New York; in Oratorio as both soloist and chorister with Bahamas Music Society, Brooklyn Philharmonia Chorus, Cologne Chamber Orchestra, Deutsche-Amerikanische Chor of Frankfurt, Hessische-Rundfunk Orchestra, National Chorale, New York Choral Society, Opera Orchestra of New York, Rogue Valley Symphony and San Francisco Choral Society; and in “Opera to Broadway” concerts on tour throughout the USA, Bahamas and Germany. In addition to local productions with Anima Mundi and Camelot Theatre, Madeline has stage-directed over 30 productions of opera, musical theatre and concert in NY, SF and abroad. She is currently an adjunct voice instructor at SOU and has taught voice, breath, acting and physical conditioning at Berkeley Rep, HUC, Holy Names, JMU, MBU and NYU. In 2013, she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Vocal Performance, summa cum laude with distinction, at MBU and is a long-time union member in good standing of AEA and SAG-AFTRA.

Sarah Norris

Sarah Norris travels to Ashland from the wilds of California, where she provides OB/GYN care at Fairchild Medical Center in Yreka.  She has a lifelong love of singing, and having spent over thirty years as a professional singer and performer in the Bay Area, she is happy to now be an AMATEUR, in the true sense of that word – to sing for pure love and joy, and the nourishment of being part of this wonderful group.  Among many fortunate musical forays of her past, she counts among her favorites singing in the Balkan women’s choir “Kitka”, premiering several new music theater pieces with Overtone Theater and the Paul Dresher Ensemble, touring a two-person “Dybbuk” with A Traveling Jewish Theater, and singing in choirs most Sunday mornings beginning when she was five years old.  But perhaps her proudest musical contribution is her daughter, now a professional cellist.

Marie Barlow

Marie Barlow

Marie’s choral experience began in preschool and continued throughout college. Highlights include singing under Dr. Roger Wagner of The Roger Wagner Chorale where she was a featured soloist in works by Faure, Handel, and Mozart among others, performing new musical theatre works at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and singing in the Sound of America Honor Band and Chorus, a select group of singers that performed throughout Europe. After college, Marie embarked on a 19yr career in musical theatre performing such roles as Maria in West Side Story, Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady, and Grace Farrell in the National Broadway Tour of Annie directed by the musical’s lyricist, Martin Charnin. She performed around the world on cruise ships, in Light Opera, and with the NY Ragtime Orchestra touring Japan. Next, Marie transitioned into music ministry performing over 300 solo concerts throughout the country, recording 4 studio albums, and appearing on numerous Christian broadcasts including The Hour of Power at the Crystal Cathedral with Rev. Robert Schuller. By joining the Repertory Singers, Marie feels she has returned to her first love, choral music, and is grateful for this chapter in a rewarding musical journey.

Luna Bitzer

Luna Bitzer

Luna can’t imagine life without music. She started piano lessons at 6, flute lessons at10, and majored in music at Syracuse University. After a brief dalliance with rock music, she discovered the joy of choral music with the Collegiate Chorale in New York City, rehearsing and performing in Carnegie Hall. From there she moved to the Seattle Chamber Singers performing mostly baroque repertoire. Since moving to Ashland in the90’s and joining Rep Singer, Luna also performs with the Rogue Valley Symphonic Band, Ashland City Band, Jefferson Baroque, and several smaller ensembles. When Luna is not making music, she can be found happily digging in her garden.

CeCe is a multifaceted musician and performer. In addition to the time she spends with the Repertory Singers, she can be seen performing around the Rogue Valley with her bass clarinet and occasionally acting. She is supported in her creative path by her loving husband, Brian, his cat, Hans, and their two wonderful children, James and Samantha.

Kyla Casazza

Kyla Casazza

Kyla began their music career when they were 5 years old learning piano. Now, that has blossomed into both choirs and bands over the years, including the SOU chamber choir, Southern Oregon Repertory Singers, Rogue Valley Symphonic Band, and Ashland City Band, as well as serving as the music director for the AMS theatre program for three years (2021-2023). They graduated from SOU in 2021 with a Bachelors in Elementary Education Studies and a minor in Spanish and Music, then in 2022 with a Masters in the Art of Teaching and Multiple Subject Teaching Credential. They are currently a special education teacher for kindergarten through second grade at Jacksonville Elementary where they get to bring music into the classroom every day.

Shelly Cox-Thornhill

Shelly Cox-Thornhill

Born and raised in the Rogue Valley, Shelly has studied voice for more than 25 years. She is an active soloist and choral singer, performing regularly with ensembles throughout the region including Jefferson Baroque Orchestra, Siskiyou Singers, Rogue Valley Chorale, Trinity Episcopal Church, and Ashland First Presbyterian Church. Professionally, Shelly serves on the Administrative Team for Jackson County Mental Health and resides in Medford with her family.

Erin DeCarlow

Erin DeCarlow

Erin grew up in Oregon and has lived all across the state. She has been involved in music her entire life, and is grateful to have had many wonderful mentors and educators along the way. She attended the University of Oregon, graduating with a degree in political science in 2010. While she enjoys many hobbies and interests – reading, gardening, jigsaw puzzles, attending University of Oregon athletic events, to name a few – singing remains the most meaningful and soul-enriching. Erin has been a part of several choral ensembles around the state. She is honored to be a member of Southern Oregon Repertory Singers and to continue to grow in her artistic endeavors. Professionally, she is a special education teacher in Butte Falls.She and her husband, Ben, reside in Eagle Point with their two cats and two dogs. 

Paula Fowler

Paula began playing the harp and singing in choirs from an early age. She earned her Bachelor of Music (harp performance) at San Francisco State University in 1988 then went on to pursue her other calling, Nursing. After moving to the Rogue Valley in 2017 she rediscovered her musical roots first with the Rogue Valley Chorale, then SORS, then playing the harp again. Paula works as an RN at Rogue Regional Medical Center.

Caitlyn Gillespie

Caitlyn Gillespie

Caitlyn Gillespie’s first public singing experience was in a small-town community production of “the Sound of Music” when she was 7 years old! She grew up singing in church, theatre, and school choirs, and spent four years actively involved with the choir and chamber singers at Knox College in Illinois. Touring Barcelona with the Knox College Choir remains one of her favorite college memories, and so when she moved to Oregon she was thrilled to find another opportunity to sing here with the Southern Oregon Repertory Singers! Caitlyn works as a biologist for Klamath Bird Observatory in Ashland and enjoys spending time with her family, camping and hiking adventures, trivia nights, and attempting ambitious baking projects.

Susan Hocevar

Susan Hocevar

Susan joined SORS in January 2022, just a month after moving to the Rogue Valley to be closer to her family (grandbabies!!). She retired as a professor from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA in 2019 where she did research and taught classes in negotiation and inter-organizational collaboration. Her choral experience prior to SORS included Aria Women’s choir, Monterey Symphony Choir, and the Carmel Bach Festival chorus. Being a member of SORS brings her great joy, both in making beautiful music and developing some wonderful friendships. Susan particularly thanks Paul and Jodi French!

Laurie Anne Hunter

Laurie Anne Hunter

Laurie is very happy to have found her true home in the Rogue Valley after an extensive career in New York, playing and conducting at the New York City Opera and on Broadway. Former Artistic Director of the Rogue Valley Chorale, she taught music at SOU for over 20 years and has led productions for the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Oregon Cabaret Theater, SOU Theater Arts, Rogue Opera, Brava! Opera and Medford’s Collaborative Theater Project. She also spent many years playing therapeutic harp music for Providence hospice and is currently Music Director at the First Presbyterian Church of Ashland.

Amy Merwin

Amy Merwin

Amy has enjoyed singing with Southern Oregon Repertory Singers since 2016 when she moved back to Ashland with her family. She earned a B.A. in Music from SOU and a Master’s in Teaching from Oregon State University, where she performed with several ensembles including the SOU Choir and the OSU Marching Band. Since becoming a certified Music Teacher in 2000, Amy has taught music in Oregon, California, and The International School of Geneva in Geneva, Switzerland. She currently teaches Music and Choir at Helman School, ASD Middle School Choir, and the occasional musical at Ashland Middle School. Besides singing Alto with the Rep. Singers, she also enjoys playing percussion with the Rogue Valley Symphonic Band.

Linda Morris

Linda Morris

Linda has sung in choirs and musicals/operettas since middle school. Linda and her husband, Michael, have loved singing with the Repertory Singers since 2019, soon after they moved to Medford from Cupertino, CA, where they met in 1971 singing in the De Anza College Chorale and Vintage Singers. They also sing in the Trinity Episcopal Church choir, as well as volunteer with Medford Garden Club and Rogue Valley Habitat for Humanity. They enjoy spending time with their son, daughter-in-law and their 3 grandchildren, and their daughter and son-in-law—who are all engaged in music!

Pam Nordquist

Pam Nordquist

Pam Nordquist is currently the adjunct choral conductor of the Riverside Chorus at Rogue Community College in Medford. She directs a multi-age mixed choir that rehearses and performs a diverse set of choral repertoire for public performances during the academic year. 

Pam recently retired from South Medford High School, completing a 40-year career as a music educator in Kansas and Oregon. She has taught music k-12, music theater, folk dance, and coached volleyball. In retirement, she is busy preparing soloists for festival and accompanying locally. She sings in the Southern Oregon Repertory Singers with her husband, Pete, and adult son, Andrew. This is true joy!

Pam was the founder of the Rogue Valley Youth Ensemble, a select mixed choir for singers in grades 9-12.  Moving here in 2001, she began working as a rehearsal assistant for the Children’s Chorus with Doris Sjolund, and then started the Youth Ensemble the next year. Following Doris’ retirement, Pam also served as the conductor of the Children’s Chorus, a 5th-8th grade treble chorus and then began a 7-9th grade mixed choir, the Cantare Chorus.  The Youth Ensemble performed and traveled extensively in the Pacific Northwest and celebrated 20 years of music making under Pam’s direction.  The RVYC experience was the highlight of her career!

Mrs. Nordquist holds degrees from The Wichita State University, the Conservatory of Music-University of Missouri-Kansas City (Master’s in Choral Conducting with Eph Ehly) and has additional professional development credits from Oregon universities.

Pam has served 20 years on the board of the Oregon American Choral Director’s Association as Repertoire and Standards Chair for Junior High and Middle School Choirs, Membership Chair, and a 3-year term as State President of the ORACDA board. Pam has been privileged to serve as guest conductor, clinician, accompanist, and facilitator for many choral workshops and events throughout Oregon.

Julia Sommer

Julia has been singing with Southern Oregon Repertory Singers since 2006. Before that, she performed with the San Francisco Symphony Chorus under Michael Tilson Thomas and San Francisco Chamber Singers. She retired from UC-Berkeley as a principal editor.

Sheila Stetson

Sheila Stetson

Sheila was raised in Livermore, California.  In high school, she sang choral & solo works.  In college, she earned her Bachelor of Music Degree, & Teaching Credential from San Francisco State University.  Later, she earned her Master of Music Education Degree at Indiana University in Bloomington.  There she studied voice with Ms. Marian Krajewska, & Mr. Jean Deis. Back in San Francisco,  Sheila began a successful career in capital equipment finance.  Voice lessons continued with Ms. Sara Ganz.  She was accepted into the San Francisco Symphony Chorus.  For 15 years, she rehearsed & performed great symphonic & choral works, under conductors such as Seiji Ozawa, Edo de Waart, Herbert Blomstedt & Michael Tilson Thomas.  She was included in the past production of 4 separate CD recordings made by the SF Symphony & Chorus (London label). She has happily relocated to the Rogue Valley.  Birdwatching, natural history, martial arts & travel are some hobbies.  Per Sheila, singing with Rep Singers is an “unanticipated joy!”

Livia Genise

Livia Genise was a professional actress and member of Actors Equity Association, the Union of Professional Actors in the United States, from 1969 to 2021. She began her stage career at the St. Louis Municipal Opera and has performed throughout the country from Broadway (Rizzo in Grease) to Hollywood, guest starring on everything from Three’s Company to Hill St. Blues, including a four-month stint on Days of our Lives. The recipient of numerous Best Actress awards (Drama-Logue, Bay Area Critics Circle), Genise was a founding member of the Camelot Theatre Company and was its Artistic Director for over 14 years. Her acting and directing credits there include over 50 productions, most recently as Fr. Schneider in Cabaret and Dolly in Hello Dolly. Genise recently starred as Dotti in Noises Off, Baruska in Once, Hannah in The Spitfire Grill and as Mrs. Peacock in Clue at the Oregon Cabaret Theatre, as Dr. Laurie Jamison in Third for ACT and as Patsy Cline for her own production company. She has been with Southern Oregon Repertory Singers, on and off (depending on if she was in a show!) for many years. She dedicates all her performances to her late daughter Amanda (Mandy).

Lorin Groshong

Lorin is an accomplished musician, specializing in oboe and woodwind doubling. The most soul-fulfilling of her musical pursuits, however, is choral singing.  She has sung in choirs since elementary school, even singing in the elite National High School Music Institute choir in 1992. For the last 10 years Lorin has been honored to be part of the Southern Oregon Repertory Singers’ alto section because, as she says, “nothing improves my musical artistry more than singing.”

Ralph Dady

Ralph Dady

Ralph has been singing for as long as he can remember. Whether children’s to adult choirs at church, high school to college choirs. In 1972 he played Tamino in Mozart’s, Magic Flute at George Fox University. A few years later he was the 1st tenor in the quartet for Music Man at Biola University. This is where he meet his wife, Sharon who also sings in SORS along with Aaron their youngest son. He feels it a privilege to sing under the direction of Dr. Paul French.

Andrew Davis

Andrew was born and raised in Medford, Oregon. They have studied voice with Lynn Sjolund, Michael Morris, Dr. Jerron Jorgensen, and Dr. Christi McLain. Andrew has performed as both a chorister and soloist with the Rogue Valley Chorale, Southern Oregon Repertory Singers, and the choirs of Southern Oregon University. Their operatic work includes lead roles as F. Scott Fitzgerald in The Ghosts of Gatsby and William Royle in Staggerwing, and most recently as the Current Narrator in The Raven by Jesse Preis. In 2025, Andrew was one of four finalists for the Partnership for the Performing Arts Scholarship.

Tom Hearon

Tom Hearon

Tom majored in music before receiving an English degree from Southern Oregon University. He has sung with Southern Oregon repertory Singers since director Paul French’s first year with the ensemble. Tom serves on the Board of Directors and sings in the Chorus of Jefferson Baroque Orchestra. Additionally, he performs with the Rogue Valley Chorale. Tom and his wife Kim currently operate logistics company Allegro Courier LLC.

Henrik Hunt

Henrik Hunt

Henrik Hunt, tenor, graduated in 2024 from Southern Oregon University with a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education and a Certificate in Vocal Performance. While at SOU, he was awarded the Chamber Music Concerts Scholarship and studied voice with Paul French. Henrik now teaches elementary music at Mills and Pelican Elementary Schools in Klamath Falls while pursuing his Master of Arts in Teaching at George Fox University. He has sung in choirs for most of his life and has been a member of the Southern Oregon Repertory Singers since 2023. For Henrik, music is a profound means of expressing emotions that words alone cannot fully capture.

Anthony Hutchinson

Anthony Hutchinson

Anthony is a retired U.S. diplomat and Episcopal priest. He worked mainly in China for 20 years and has several higher degrees in Classics and Semitics, including a Ph.D. in Biblical Studies from the Catholic University of America. He is fluent in several languages, including Mandarin, French, Greek, Latin, Hebrew, and Aramaic. He began singing with Rep Singers in 2022 after retiring, and sings with several other Rogue Valley groups also. He has sung in multiple church choirs over the years, including the St. John’s Cathedral Choir in Hong Kong, and directed the Peking Diplomatic Carol Choir 1990-93.

Brian has been a professional performing artist for more than four decades: instrumentalist, actor, singer both choral and solo including musicals and operas, conductor, composer. and arranger. He has worked and performed up and down both coasts of the US and in Europe. He lives in Ashland with his spouse, renowned singer and voice teacher Madeline Abel-Kerns.

Nic Kinzie

Nic Kinzie grew up in Ashland and attended Ashland High School. He earned his bachelor’s in music from Southern Oregon University in 2004 where Dr. French had been one of his voice instructors. He moved to Mexico where he lived for almost nine years and started a family while working in various industries including the state run PEMEX oil and gas, jewelry, and early childhood development. He began singing with the Repertory Singers in 2013 when he returned from Mexico. In 2021 he earned a master’s in teaching and taught middle school fulltime. He now teaches all grades and works on his farm in the Greensprings.

Josh Lounsbury

Josh Lounsbury

Josh Lounsbury is a tenor and a rogue valley native. He sang in choir throughout high school both at South Medford and in the Rogue Valley Youth Ensemble. He performed in various musical theater productions being featured as Fonzie in Happy Days and Marius in Les Miserables. Being a part of SORS is a great opportunity to keep using his voice and make music with his community.

Zachery Marshall

Zachery Marshall

Zachery has been a musician since a young age, and now sings with Southern Oregon Repertory Singers and SOU Chamber Choir. To him, music communicates, pushes boundaries, and is a window into the mind and heart. In 2017 he graduated with his Bachelor of Arts in Music and Media, and is now putting it to use in making the community thrive with music.

Jonathan Nash

Jonathan currently teaches multiple instruments including guitar, piano, saxophone and vocals at Rogue Music Academy in Medford and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from Vandercook College of Music in Chicago, Illinois. Jonathan has been in choirs throughout his life, played in metal bands, conducted the Vandercook Orchestra, held leading roles in music theater and dabbled in music production. Jonathan moved to Oregon in 2023. He loves all things musical and artistically expressive, the beauty of Oregon, and experiencing what the world has to offer!

Ken McPherson

Ken McPherson

Ken first became a musician in third grade when his parents bought him a French horn. Through high school Ken was in every band/choir/musical production he could join. After 2 years at DeAnza College, he transferred to UCLA where he became the student conductor/musical director for the Theater Arts Department. Founding member of Los Angeles Chamber Singers. Interned at Actors Studio West Hollywood. First Equity production at age 22, most recent at age 60. Eight seasons with San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus at Davies Symphony Hall as a featured soloist. And countless performances with other organizations in between.

Brandt Nakamura

For Brandt, performance has always been, and remains central in his life. Since obtaining his B.A. in Music from Southern Oregon University in 2010 under the tutelage of Dr. Paul French, he has performed extensively with multiple musical groups and theatres in the Rogue Valley. Repertory Singers remains a constant source of musical inspiration to Brandt, and he is honored to continue his work with the talent and grace of both Dr. Paul and Jodi French.

Daniel Munoz

Daniel Munoz

Daniel Muñoz is a born and raised Rogue Valley Native. His music journey formally began when he joined his first singing group ‘Voices’ in the 8th grade at Hedrick Middle School. Since then, he has been a part of multiple additional ensembles such as the NMHS Men’s, Concert & Chamber Choirs, Rogue Valley Youth Ensemble, a member of the Stangeland Family Youth Choral Academy and a singer in SOU’s Chamber Choir. Although he spent a few years studying classical voice in both Portland and Ashland, he ultimately found his place working in the community in social services. Currently Daniel is a Career Coach who works to help low income individuals and families with finding self sufficient employment. He continues to sing with SORS as a way to affirm his beliefs in peace, community, and harmony.

Brian is originally from Minnesota but lived in San Francisco for more than 35 years. He retired to Ashland with his spouse Greg about 5 years ago. He has a Bachelor of Accounting degree from University of Minnesota-Duluth and a J.D. from Golden Gate University School of Law. His choral singing experience goes back to University Singers of Minnesota-Duluth and after that with Twin Cities Men’s Chorus of Minneapolis, Windy City Gay Chorus of Chicago and St. Mark’s Lutheran Church Choir in San Francisco. He loves living in Ashland and is grateful for the opportunity to sing with such an extraordinary vocal group as Southern Oregon Repertory Singers.

Eric is glad to be singing this wonderful music with his fellow musicians and colleagues. Eric majored in Vocal Performance at Southern Oregon University. He plans on staying in Repertory Singers and making music until he heads off to achieve his Masters.

Hal Wing

Hal Wing

Hal began singing in organized choirs at age five. He graduated from the University of Oregon with a degree in choral conducting and education. In addition to University Singers and the Chamber Choir there, he was one of the three co-founders of the Oregon Vocal Jazz Ensemble. After moving from Eugene, he joined the faculty at St. Mary’s School and started the school’s music program. Wing then became the forensics coach at the school, which kept him out of performing for over 25 years. Realizing that his sanity was at stake from lack of singing, he finally left coaching and returned to his first love. “I have been blessed with so many chances to sing with a lot of world-renowned groups and directors,” said Wing, “but Paul French and the Repertory Singers are as good or better than any of them!”

Aaron Dady

Aaron has been singing for as long as he can remember and began performing on stage at his church before the age of five.  Raised in the Rogue Valley, he developed an early appreciation for choral music while attending performances by the Southern Oregon Repertory Singers, which fueled his desire to one day join their ranks.  He has appeared with several ensembles, including the Rogue Valley Chorale, RCC Choir, and the Oregon Bach Festival’s Youth Choral Academy under the direction of Dr. Anton Armstrong and the late Maestro Helmuth Rilling, and has performed at the Hult Center for the Performing Arts in Eugene.  In addition to his choral work, Aaron has performed leading stage roles including Tony in West Side Story and Ralph Rackstraw in Gilbert and Sullivan’s H.M.S. Pinafore.  He is honored to perform alongside such distinguished musicians and is especially drawn to the beauty and complexity of choral music, as well as the collaboration required to create a unified and expressive sound.  Aaron resides in Central Point with his wife and their two energetic boys.

Barry Russell

Barry grew up in Southern California in a family of singers and voice teachers, but rebelled and became a trombonist. By the time he had a jazz-rock band, he was needed for backup vocals, then lead vocals. Majoring in music at LA Valley College, choral music became an interest, including a new choir led by Glenn Delange, with whom Barry sang for decades. Many other choral groups needed him, including a jazz choir, and a performance under Zubin Mehta at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion with the LA Philharmonic. Moving to Grants Pass in 2001, Barry joined the Siskiyou Singers, then included musical theater for performances as Jean Valjean in Les Miserables. Recently he has performed solos for the Messiah Singalong in Grants Pass, and also sings with the 3 Rivers Chorale. A 2026 performance with Eric Whitacre at Carnegie Hall was a highlight. Barry enjoys working with his wife Debbie in their ceramic manufacturing business, Encore Ceramics.

Holden Cook

Holden is graduating from SOU in June 2025 with a BS in music and certificates in Vocal Performance and Music Theory & History. This is his third season with the Rep Singers, and he looks forward to singing many more concerts in the years to come. In addition to SORS and SOU choir, Holden is a member of the First United Methodist Church choir and has been a featured soloist and chorus member with the Jefferson Baroque Orchestra.

Kenneth Depp

Kenneth Depp

Kenneth has been actively involved in various choral ensembles in the Rogue Valley since relocating to Medford in 2010. While pursuing his Bachelor of Arts in Music from Southern Oregon University, he performed in shows with Rogue Opera, including a character role in ‘Madame Butterfly’ in 2015. After graduating in 2014, he joined multiple choral ensembles simultaneously. In 2018, he toured with the Rogue Valley Chorale and the Men of Worth in Ireland. He’s also toured with Repertory Singers’ outreach ensembles, inspiring people at schools and retirement homes. Today, he uses music to uplift and inspire all who hear the beauty of choral music.

Dale Engle

Dale has performed as a soloist and chorister in several Bay Area groups, including the San Francisco Symphony Chorus, San Francisco Chamber Singers (now Volti), Festival Opera and Pacific Edge Voices, in genres ranging from classical to a cappella jazz and pop. He is delighted to have found a new home in the Rogue Valley and the Repertory Singers.

Dale Engle

Shayne Flock

Shayne Flock grew up in the Rogue Valley, surrounded by music. Coming from a family of musicians, he was introduced to choral singing at a very young age. Shayne began his lifelong passion for choral music in the third grade. After earning a music degree from Oregon State University (OSU) and teaching music for a few years in central Oregon, Shayne and his wife returned to the Rogue Valley to raise their family. With over 15 years of experience in music education, Shayne is currently the choir director at North Medford High School. As a singer, he has had the honor of performing with numerous choral groups in the valley, including the Rogue Youth Choruses, where he was a charter member of the Youth Ensemble, the Rogue Valley Chorale, and the Siskiyou Singers, among others. Shayne began his journey as a professional choir director during his time at OSU and has actively sought directing opportunities wherever he has lived. His local directing experience includes leading Cantare (part of the Rogue Valley Youth Choruses) and the Voices of the Applegate. In his free time, Shayne enjoys fishing in his drift boat and camping with his wife and children: Vanessa, AnnaLynn, and Keneniah.

Dan Fowler

Dan Fowler

Dan is pastor at the 1st Presbyterian Church of Ashland. Dan was a music major (vocal performance emphasis) at San Francisco State University and has sung bass/baritone solos for many choral works and performed in several operas and musicals throughout Northern California and Southern Oregon. He has also served as a choral conductor with  several choirs. In addition to singing, Dan also plays piano and guitar.

Don Matthews

Don Matthews

Don has a Bachelor of Music degree from
Eastern Michigan University, a Master’s in Vocal Performance from USC, and was a member of the San Francisco Opera chorus. In 1998, he became the morning classical music host at Jefferson Public Radio until he retired in 2024. Don was a voice teacher at SOU from 2002 to 2021 and has appeared in numerous productions with the Camelot Theatre, Rogue Music Theatre among others. He has also appeared in numerous productions with Rogue Music Theatre and Camelot Theatre. He has also appeared as a soloist with Rogue Valley Chorale, Siskiyou Singers, and Rogue Opera.

Michael Morris

Michael Morris

Bass-baritone Michael Morris has spent more than five decades teaching voice, conducting, and performing. He has sung leading roles in some 70 operas, operettas, and musicals in addition to performing as a soloist in dozens of choral works and oratorios. He has also served as the Music Director for several choral organizations and was the Artistic Director for the Rogue Valley Chorale from 2018 – 2022. Michael has conducted dozens of musical theater and operetta productions and served as the Voice Department Chair at Holy Names College in Oakland, CA and the College of Notre Dame in Belmont, CA. In addition, he taught private voice lessons at the Michael Morris Studio for over fifty years. Michael earned his Bachelor of Music from San Francisco State University and his Master of Music in Vocal Performance at the College of Notre Dame in Belmont, CA.

Andrew Nordquist

Andrew Nordquist

Andrew has been part of the choral community in the Rogue Valley ever since he could talk. Son of Pam Nordquist, founder of the Rogue Valley Youth Ensemble and Cantare Chorus, Andrew was surrounded by music throughout his childhood. From the third grade up through high school he sang in the Rogue Valley Youth Choruses before attending SOU, where he would eagerly join Paul French’s Chamber Choir and earn his Bachelor of Science in Emerging Media and Digital Art. Andrew had the privilege of singing with his father Pete, former Computer Science professor and Department Chair, in the SOU Chamber Choir up until his retirement in 2019. In the years since, Andrew’s already considerable appreciation for music has only grown as a result of the incredible repertoire that SORS has exposed him to. With a heavy but hopeful heart, Andrew will be leaving the Rogue Valley in Summer of 2026 to explore new career opportunities in Portland.

William Powell

William Powell

Bill is a native of Northern California. He grew up in Chico where he graduated from CSU, Chico before going off to study osteopathic medicine at the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in Northeast Missouri.  He practices functional family medicine and neuromusculoskeletal medicine. Though he did not formally study music at any time, he has been in various choirs over the years, briefly singing with the Mormon Youth Chorus, and a few times with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.  He joined the Repertory Singers in 2018 and sings baritone/bass.

Michael Sorensen

Michael Sorensen

Michael Sorensen graduated from Southern Oregon University, Cum Laude in 2013, having studied voice and viola performance under Kimberly Fitch, Ellie Holt-Murray, Laurie Hunter, and Paul French. He currently serves as Principal Viola with the Rogue Valley Symphony, and teaches viola through the symphony education programs.

Ron Strom

Ron Strom

Ron has sung in choral settings since childhood and in the Repertory Singers since 2016. Other musical endeavors include music directing and conducting pit orchestras for local theatre companies over the last 23 years. His musical theatre activity has included many projects with his wife of 40 years (also a Rep Singers member), two daughters and other family. A resident of Grants Pass, Oregon, Ron enjoys living near his four grandchildren. He earned a minor in music from California Lutheran University, is an editor by trade and is involved in serving at his church. He appreciates the power of music to transform, heal and unite us.

Nick Tennant has been singing in public for a long time. He has performed in concert under the direction Igor Stravinsky, Josef  Kripps, and Darius Milhaud; and with Oregon Shakespeare Festival, the San Francisco Symphony, Berkeley Consortium Antiquum, Rogue Opera, Rogue Valley Symphony, Britt Festival, Actors Workshop, and French and Irish national radio.  

Brian Tingle

Brian Tingle

Brian is the co-founder of the Repertory Singers in the Spring of 1986 with the late Ellison Glattly. Ellison was the Director of the Vocal/Choral programs of the Music Dept. of then-Southern Oregon State College. Brian’s musical genes appeared in fourth grade band as a baritone horn player and as an alto in grammar school choruses. He found his bass singing voice in junior college in California in 1966. He’s been singing in collegiate, community and professional choirs ever since. Brian has sung in choirs in Calif., Oregon, the Midwest and for an academic year with three choirs in Stuttgart, West Germany that included a few J.S. Bach cantata recordings with the internationally renowned director, Helmuth Rilling. He also had the pleasure of singing two performances of the Verdi Requiem with the world-famous Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra in West Berlin. Starting in 1975, Brian sang numerous seasons in the Festival Chorus of the Oregon Bach Festival in Eugene, conducted by its founder, Helmuth Rilling. Brian has served numerous terms on the Board of Directors of the Rep Singers and continues to be a champion of the ensemble in front of community groups and local Chambers of Commerce.

Craig Williams

Craig Williams

Craig started singing in choirs at age 12 and was conducting by age 17.  He completed a BA in Music/Choral Conducting at SOU in 1995 and has sung with the Repertory Singers on and off since 1992.  Craig worked for 29 years as a 911 dispatcher/supervisor and during that time kept himself busy singing in and directing church choirs. He also enjoys writing and arranging choral settings.
